Sustainable and Organic Health & Beauty
Weleda
What started in 1921 as a pharmaceutical laboratory, with its own medicinal plant garden, is today a world-leading manufacturer of holistic natural and organic cosmetics as well as natural pharmaceuticals for anthroposophic healthcare.
Weleda products are intended to support people in their personal development – maintaining, promoting and restoring health and supporting their efforts to nurture physical wellbeing and achieve a balanced lifestyle. This company philosophy determines Weleda’s economic approach and will remain the guiding principle for the future.
With so many brands claiming to be natural, it is important to know what you are buying. Weleda has been growing plants organically and creating natural herbal medicines and body care products for almost 100 years, often to the same original, authentic recipes that have stood the test of time.
Put simply, Weleda was the original green beauty brand and has pioneered the way for others to follow – from biodynamic farming and cultivation to setting the standards for ethical and sustainable business practices. Today, Weleda is the world’s No1 producer of certified natural beauty and wellbeing products, supplying across five continents into fifty countries. All Weleda products are certified natural or organic by the global quality mark NATRUE and Weleda is one of only two beauty brands worldwide (the first in Europe) to hold the UEBT (Union for Ethical Biotrade) certification for Sourcing with Respect. UEBT looks at a company’s entire sourcing system to verify that biodiversity is conserved, ingredients are sourced sustainably, and that all partners along the supply chain are treated equitably and paid fairly.
The name ‘Weleda’ originates from the ancient title of distinction given to wise women who advised their Celtic tribes about family and community matters. They were healers, offering physical and spiritual support, and had great knowledge of plants and natural remedies – rather like an early apothecary or herbalist.
Unique to the UK, Weleda has a growing network of Wellbeing Advisors. All Weleda Wellbeing Advisors are ‘Weledas’, and are part of a wonderful community of wise women and men trained to advise and support people in their local community, sharing their know-how to introduce people to a more natural path to health and beauty. Some of our Wellbeing Advisors are natural health practitioners and some are not. If you are passionate about natural health and a natural way of living Weleda can teach you the rest!
